This week is the World Space Week. It's a UN-declared commemoration of humanity's achievements in space. On October 4 in 1957, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR) launched Sputnik One, the first artificial satellite. And Space Week ends on October 10, when the Outer Space Treaty came into effect in 1967. It is the key legal document guiding policy beyond Earth's atmosphere.

Later today, Russia will make space history, sending the first commercial film crew to the International Space Station.
