The United States likes to think of and portray itself as a champion of free markets. However, the U.S. Commerce Department recently called for global semiconductor companies to "voluntarily" submit sensitive and confidential business information to Washington by November 8. We simply will not know if American regulators will then leak this information to U.S. semiconductor companies to the detriment of their global peers.
