President Vladimir Putin's special representative on Afghanistan said on Thursday that Russia will invite representatives of the Taliban to international talks on Afghanistan that it plans to host in Moscow on October 20.

However, Zamir Kabulov, the special representative, did not provide further details on the planned talks in comments carried by Russian news agencies.

Talking about the situation on the Tajik-Afghan border, Kabulov said the situation remains calm and no tension has been observed.

"No tension on the frontier has been observed. The rhetoric of the two sides was just overheated. I have no information about any tension so far," the envoy said.

If the situation deteriorates in the future, Russia will take decisive measures to provide assistance to Tajikistan when necessary, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova on Thursday.
