For someone with a personal record of noting over 500 bird species in Beijing, it's fair to say that he knows every kind of bird that might show up in the Chinese capital, be it on a tree or in mid-air.

Well, that person is Terry Townshend. 

You might think he must be a native Beijinger who could afford the time and the familiarity with the historical city for the activity of bird-watching. Truth is he's from the UK, and the difference between birding in his home country and his second home city might be smaller than you imagine.
