After days of heavy rain in north China's Pingyao County, a part of the eastern walls of the Pingyao Ancient City collapsed. The local government quickly organized for emergency rescue teams and cultural heritage protection experts to be sent to the scene. Repair work on the collapsed ancient city wall has also started. 

Pingyao is a tourist attraction with a history dating back about 2,700 years. Its old town is famous for its well-preserved city walls and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site List in 1997.
