More than 120,000 people have been temporarily evacuated after continuous downpours triggered floods in north China's Shanxi Province, authorities said Sunday. The local government has earmarked 50 million yuan (about $7.8 million) to support the flood control and rescue work, including thousands of tents and folding beds as well as cotton clothes and quilts allocated for disaster relief. /CFP

According to the provincial department of emergency management, over 1.75 million people from 76 counties, cities and districts have been affected by floods caused by persistent downpours that were about five times the usual amount of rain in the normally arid area. Nearly 190,000 hectares of crops were damaged and more than 17,000 buildings collapsed. /CFP
