The Buffalo Bills walked over the Kansas City Chiefs 38-20 at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday night, improving their record to 4-1, leading the American Football Conference (AFC) East Division. The Chiefs fell to the bottom in the AFC West with a 2-3 record.

Josh Allen, quarterback of the Bills, was the brightest star in the game, completing 15 of 26 passes for 315 yards, three touchdowns (TDs) and no interceptions, while rushing for 59 yards and a TD.

By contrast, Patrick Mahomes threw for just 239 yards on 28 out of 47 attempts. Though he connected with Travis Kelce and Bryon Pringle for two TDs, Mahomes saw two of his passes intercepted. Tyreek Hill dropped a pass which led to a pick-six by Micah Hyde.

The referees made multiple controversial calls and partly impacted the game, but ultimately the Bills were the better-performing team on Sunday night and the Chiefs had mostly themselves to blame for the home loss.

For example, the Chiefs' defensive line searched for the right way to do their job for over three quarters before finally figuring it out in Q4. Allen had his way with the Kansas City defense, switching between passing and rushing with great ease.

The Bills did a much better job than their opponents on defense. They took away Mahomes' most lethal deep threat, forcing him to connect with his receivers on short-yardage plays, and making the QB scramble on multiple occasions.

Compared to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV, the Bills used different tactics to limit Mahomes, but the two teams shared the same goal: deprive Mahomes of his receivers to paralyze the Chiefs offense. That should be a reminder for Chiefs head coach Andy Reid to find more ways for the team to support their QB.

Moreover, the Chiefs might need to reconsider their goal for this season. Instead of targeting revenge in the Super Bowl, they should first think about how to secure a Wild Card spot to reach the postseason.

The Bills will challenge the Tennessee Titans on October 18 before drawing a bye in Week 7. When they return, they will first meet three relatively easy rivals: the Miami Dolphins, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Jets. But another three games after that, Allen and the Bills will go to Raymond James Stadium to challenge the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady on December 12. If the Bills continue to perform as they have, the game against the Bucs may be a rehearsal for Super Bowl LVI.
