As many as 15 people were killed, and three others are missing after incessant torrential rains triggered flooding in north China's Shanxi Province, authorities said Tuesday.

The latest round of downpours from October 2 to 7 have led to a direct economic loss of 5.029 billion yuan ($0.78 billion), said the provincial authorities at a news conference.

Over 1.75 million residents from 76 counties, cities and districts have been affected, and more than 120,000 people have been temporarily evacuated. Some 238,460 hectares of farmlands were damaged, and more than 19,500 houses collapsed, a senior official told reporters.
