Russia's stance on the Taiwan issue is that the island belongs to China, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday. 

Lavrov made the remarks at a press conference where he was asked if Russia views the current situation surrounding Taiwan as a threat to regional security.

"Just like the overwhelming majority of other countries, Russia views Taiwan as part of the People's Republic of China. This is the premise we proceed from and will continue to proceed from in our policy," Lavrov said.
