Japan has dissolved its parliament, setting the stage for general elections on October 31. Polls show newly-elected Prime Minister Fumio Kishida enjoys reasonable public support after just over a week in office.

Kishida aims to maintain a lower house majority for his Liberal Democratic Party and its Komeito party coalition partner in the upcoming vote.
