04:25

China's transportation sector is on a new path towards building a system that's smart, safe and eco-friendly. The national rate of railway electrification reached nearly 72 percent last year. And 400,000 buses and 430,000 trucks were using renewable or alternative energy. 40 cities in China had opened urban rail transit lines by the end of 2019, spanning nearly 6,200 kilometers. At least 70 cities have unveiled policies to regulate bike-sharing. That's on top of 360 cities that have already provided bike-sharing services. Professor Yang Hangjun joined us online for more discussion. He's from the School of International Trade and Economics of the University of International Business and Economics. Professor Yang said that the use of advanced technology and equipment can reduce traffic congestion and travel costs.
