October 16 marks World Food Day. The international day was created to observe the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1945. The FAO and the World Food Program have identified 23 global hotspots that are facing acute food insecurity, including Afghanistan, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Yemen. FAO Chief Qu Dongyu says the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed the organization further away from reaching its goal to end world hunger by 2030.
