The suspected murderer of British lawmaker David Amess has been identified as Ali Harbi Ali, according to local media outlets. 

Reports have detailed that the suspect is a 25-year-old British citizen of Somali heritage who was referred to the national counter-terrorist Prevent scheme a few years ago. 

The authorities had already stated that they believe the suspect acted alone.

Amess, 69, was knifed repeatedly at midday Friday in Leigh-on-Sea, east of London, during a meeting with local constituents in a church.
