Baker Mayfield, the starting quarterback (QB) of the Cleveland Browns, will miss the team's first night game on Thursday against the Denver Broncos at FirstEnergy Stadium because of injuries.

It was a torn labrum in his left, non-throwing shoulder that ruled Mayfield out of the coming game. He participated in Tuesday's practice in a limited fashion after saying it would be his decision to make whether he would play or not.

"Only I know how my body feels. If anyone questions whether I am hindering the team and going out there injured, that's just not right. It's my decision. I get to say whether I am able to play or not, and that's just how it is," said Mayfield.

The shoulder injury happened in the game against the Houston Texans on September 19 and was aggravated in the game against the Arizona Cardinals on October 17.

Both of the Browns' team doctors as well as Mayfield's own doctor advised against him playing on Thursday, according to ESPN. He has already started 51 straight games for the team since he acquired the position in 2018. That's the fourth-longest streak among all active QBs.

Case Keenum, 33, will run the Browns' offense against the Broncos on Thursday. This is his second season in Cleveland and he has started 62 NFL games in his career. He played for multiple teams before the Browns, including the Broncos and the Minnesota Vikings. Back in 2017, Keenum started 17 games for the Vikings under Kevin Stefanski, who, by the way, is the Browns' head coach today. The Vikings were 11-3 in that season, during which Keenum averaged 236.5 yards per game and completed 67.7 percent of his passes, racking up 22 touchdowns (TDs) and seven interceptions.

Keenum's biggest career highlight came in the postseason game against the New Orleans Saints. The Vikings trailed 24-23 with only 25 seconds left. Keenum connected with wide receiver Stefon Diggs on a 27-yard pass that resulted in a 61-yard, game-winning TD. That play has been referred to as the "Minneapolis Miracle" since then.

Despite Keenum being a reliable QB, the Browns will still face a tough situation on Thursday with 20 injured players, including Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, Odell Beckham Jr., Jack Conklin, Jedrick Wills Jr., Jadeveon Clowney, Malik Jackson and Myles Garrett.
