Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday sent congratulations to Cindy Kiro on her taking office as New Zealand's new governor-general.
Noting that China and New Zealand are important partners of cooperation to each other, President Xi said that China-New Zealand relations have made remarkable progress since the establishment of diplomatic ties 49 years ago.
The two sides have worked together to create many "firsts" that have brought tangible benefits to both sides, he said, adding that in the face of COVID-19, the two countries have conducted fruitful cooperation in epidemic prevention, control and economic recovery.
He also called on joint efforts in promoting China-New Zealand comprehensive strategic partnership on the principle of mutual respect and benefit.
"I attach great importance to the development of China-New Zealand relations and is ready to work with Governor Kiro to strengthen dialogue, exchanges and cooperation," he said.
