Former Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini is on trial, accused of kidnapping. The charges stem from his refusal to allow a Spanish rescue ship – carrying more than 100 migrants – to dock in an Italian port in 2019. Salvini has said the decision was not his alone but reached by the government, including the then-prime minister. If found guilty, he could face 15 years in prison.
