Japan, Australia and China, who have already been granted automatic berths at the tournament as winner, runner-up and third-place finisher, respectively, in the last edition in 2018, will be the firm favorites to go all the way. Other hopefuls are Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, Iran and Indonesia while hosts India will also aim for glory.

The final draw will be staged in Malaysia, where the teams will be divided into three groups of four. The top five finishers, excluding 2023 hosts Australia, will win spots at the 2023 Women's World Cup with the following two advancing to the play-offs.

The tournament will be held in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune from January 20 to February 6.
