Aerial views of the ancient city of Kashgar in Xinjiang

Located in the far west of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Kashgar is one of China's westernmost cities. It was a trade hub on the legendary Silk Road that connected ancient China to the West. The ancient city of Kashgar, well protected under a government-sponsored renovation project in 2010, is considered the center of Kashgar and has a history of more than 2,000 years. With mesmerizing culture and distinctive architectural styles, it attracts millions of visitors every year. Local's living conditions in Kashgar have also been greatly improved over the past few years.
