Chinese mainland records 59 confirmed COVID-19 cases

The Chinese mainland recorded 59 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, with 50 cases of local transmissions and nine from overseas, data from the National Health Commission showed on Wednesday.

Of the local transmissions, 32 cases were reported in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, four each in Gansu and Shandong, five in Guizhou Province, three in Beijing and two in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

In addition, 26 new asymptomatic cases were recorded, four of which were locally transmitted, while 392 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

Confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now total 96,899, with the death toll unchanged at 4,636.

The latest tally of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 12,330 (12,029 recoveries, 213 deaths)

Macao: 77 (66 recoveries)

Taiwan: 16,380 (13,742 recoveries, 847 deaths)
