The Sacramento Kings edged over the Phoenix Suns 110-107 at Footprint Center on Wednesday after Harrison Barnes beat the buzzer from the 3-point line in the last 1.4 seconds.

This was definitely the worst performance this season by Chris Paul, who went 1-10 from the floor for only six points, six rebounds and eight assists. The opponents' three young guards – De'Aaron Fox, Tyrese Haliburton and Davion Mitchell – did not go easy on the 36-year-old veteran.

Fortunately, the Suns still had Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton to rely on. Booker scored 31 points, shooting 8-14 in the mid-range, while Ayton dropped a big double-double of 21 points and 21 rebounds.

Buddy Hield and Barnes carried the Kings on offense. Hield drained seven triples on 11 attempts and Barnes made two. The first one he made extended the Kings' lead to 13 points in the fourth quarter. After the Suns tied the game 107-107 on a 12-2 run with five minutes remaining, Barnes made his second 3-pointer in Booker's face, getting the first buzzer-beater of the season.

Nets suffer the third loss in five games

The Miami Heat beat the Brooklyn Nets 106-93 at the Barclays Center on Wednesday to achieve their second straight win. Both sides enjoyed double-digit leads in this roller-coaster game, and the Heat dominated the Nets in offensive rebounding (17-4) and second-chance points (31-4). That partly explained why the team managed to win while shooting 38-96 in field goals (FGs) and 8-29 from downtown.

The other reason was the Nets' underperformance. Kevin Durant managed to post 25 points and 11 rebounds at a 50-percent FG rate (9-18), but he couldn't beat the Heat's fortress made of four elite defenders – Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, P.J. Tucker and Kyle Lowry – especially when James Harden was still miles away from what he used to be on the court.

The three-time scoring champion and former NBA MVP shot 4-12 in FGs and 3-8 in triples for 14 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four turnovers. His efficiency improved but his production was far from satisfactory.

"As much as I want to get back to just, you know, [scoring] 30's and 40 points, I can't do that [right now]. As much as I want to, obviously I would love to," said Harden after the game. "I had no opportunities to play pickup or nothing this summer. Everything was rehab for three months, from a Grade 2 injury that happened three times in one season. So this is my fifth game of trying to just play with competition against somebody else. And as much as I want to rush the process and be back to hooping and killing, [have to] take your time."

Lakers ruin their winning streak

The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 123-115 at Paycom Center on Wednesday, pocketing their first win of the season.

Six of OKC's players scored double-digit points, led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who had 27 points, nine rebounds and five assists. The No. 6 selection of the 2021 class, Josh Giddey, put down an 18-point, 10-assist double-double. The team overcame a 26-point deficit to win at home.

Though they were playing back-to-back, the Lakers started strong to lead 41-19 in the first quarter but allowed 37 and 41 points in Q2 and Q3, respectively. The whole team committed 22 turnovers, 10 of which came from Russell Westbrook, who had a triple-double of 20 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists but shot 8-20 in FGs before he was ejected.

Anthony Davis had 30 points and eight rebounds but was unable to lead the purple and gold to their first winning-steak (two) of the season.
