A spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council on Friday slammed Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen's remarks on cross-Strait relations, saying her words are "hypocritical".
Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities are begging support from external anti-China forces while faking willingness to engage in dialogue, Ma Xiaoguang said in response to a press inquiry regarding Tsai's recent interview with CNN.
Ma said that the root of cross-Strait tension was caused by the DPP authority, with its intensifying collusion with external forces, along with "Taiwan independence" elements and provoking "Taiwan independence."
The DPP is acting intentionally and compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait know this, Ma said, adding, "There is no 'misunderstanding, miscalculation and misjudgment'."
"Adherence to the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus is a major issue of right and wrong in cross-Strait relations," Ma added. "It serves as a litmus test of whether there is genuine sincerity in dialogue, maintaining peaceful development of cross-strait relations and safeguarding the interests and welfare of Taiwan compatriots."
