Mainland official: Taiwan's peace, tranquility will be ensured after reunification

A senior official of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said on Friday, that Taiwan's peace and tranquility will be guaranteed, people's livelihood and well-being will be improved after its reunification with the Chinese mainland.

Liu Junchuan, deputy head of the office, made the remarks at a seminar themed National Reunification and National Rejuvenation in Yichang, central China's Hubei Province, according to Taiwan.cn, a mainland website on affairs related to the island region.

After reunification, the way of life, private property, religious beliefs, legitimate rights and interests of Taiwan compatriots will not be infringed upon, said Liu.

He said Taiwan's economic development will be enhanced after reunification since it will have the vast mainland market.

"A peaceful reunification of the motherland best serves the overall interests of the Chinese nation, Taiwan compatriots included," he said, urging them to stand on the right side of history and contribute to the cause of national reunification and national rejuvenation.
