Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday exchanged views on the latest development of the Korean Peninsula situation with Chung Eui-yong, foreign minister of the Republic of Korea (ROK), during a meeting in Rome, Italy.

Wang said China supports all the efforts that can help promote a political resolution process of the Korean Peninsula issue, and will continue to play a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability of the peninsula and the region.

He said the Chinese side supports the ROK and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to improve and develop their relations, and is also glad to see the DPRK and the United States to restart dialogue in due time.

The two sides also expressed mutual support for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympics.

The foreign ministers are in Rome for the upcoming 16th Group of 20 (G20) Leaders' Summit.
