The Chinese mainland recorded 78 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, with 59 cases of local transmissions and 19 from overseas, data from the National Health Commission (NHC) showed on Saturday.

Of the new local cases, 26 were reported in Heilongjiang, 19 in Inner Mongolia, 11 in Gansu, two in Beijing and one in Ningxia, the commission said.

In addition, 24 new asymptomatic cases were recorded, six of which were locally transmitted, while 396 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

Confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now total 97,080, with the death toll unchanged at 4,636.

The latest tally of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 12,342 (12,033 recoveries, 213 deaths)

Macao: 77 (72 recoveries)

Taiwan: 16,399 (13,742 recoveries, 847 deaths)
