Writer Zong Pu on the legacy of the National Southwest Associated University
01:44

On July 7, 1937, Japanese troops crossed Lugou Bridge on the outskirts of Beiping (today's Beijing), beginning Japan's full-scale invasion of China. The same year, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University moved southward for safety. The three schools then merged to form the National Southwest Associated University in the southwestern city of Kunming. Writer Zong Pu moved along at a young age and spent eight years there with her father Feng Youlan, who was working as a key faculty member at the school. The 93-year-old writer shared her wartime memories at the special school with CGTN.
