Chinese mainland records 71 confirmed COVID-19 cases

The Chinese mainland recorded 71 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday, with 48 cases of local transmissions and 23 from overseas, data from the National Health Commission (NHC) showed on Sunday.

Of the new local cases, 19 were reported in Heilongjiang, 10 in Inner Mongolia, nine in Gansu, three in Shandong, three in Ningxia, two in Yunnan, one each in Beijing and Jiangxi, the commission said.

In addition, 23 new asymptomatic cases were recorded, two of which were locally transmitted, while 399 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

Confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now total 97,151, with the death toll unchanged at 4,636.

The latest tally of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 12,345 (12,034 recoveries, 213 deaths)

Macao: 77 (73 recoveries)

Taiwan: 16,406 (13,742 recoveries, 847 deaths)
