A new local COVID-19 case has been detected in the Changping District of the Chinese capital of Beijing, health authorities said at a press conference on Monday.

The person is a family member of two people previously diagnosed with COVID-19 and he has been quarantined since October 22 due to being considered a close contact.

Officials said he tested negative for the virus five times and only turned positive on October 31.
