The craft emerged in the early period of the dynasty during the reign of Emperor Kangxi and developed during the reign of Emperor Yongzheng and the subsequent 200 years. During the reign of Emperor Daoguang, the Opium War deeply influenced the development of the Qing-style furniture, bringing in characteristics of Western architecture and furniture.
