The New York Jets edged past the Cincinnati Bengals 34-31 at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, claiming their second win of the season.

Mike White, who replaced injured Zach Wilson as the Jets' starting quarter back (QB), shined the best in the game, passing for 405 yards and three touchdowns (TDs). He became the first QB of the team to throw for over 400 yards in one game since 2000 and achieved the second-best passing number for starting debut, only next to the 422 yards by Cam Newton in 2011.

Wilson was the second-overall selection in 2021 and Newton was the first-overall selection in 2011. Compared with them, White was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round in 2018, waived five times in his career and only played his first NFL game last week against the New England Patriots.

Most of White's passes were short but solid and accurate. He was 37-45 on Sunday and completed 11 straight passes in the first half. When the Jets were trailing 31-20, he found Ty Johnson and Tyler Kroft for TDs to achieve the comeback victory.

"At first, I had to kind of listen again," said White. "I was like, 'Are they chanting my name?' ... That was pretty cool."

"It goes back to that whole theory, the difference between Player A and Player Z is opportunity and reps. That's what this league is. That's professional sports. That's why [guys] come out of nowhere; someone gets an opportunity. What Mike does with his opportunity, he's got the world in front of him. He's just got to take advantage of it," said the Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

Saints intercept Tom Brady's pass and the victory

The New Orleans Saints upset the defending champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers 36-27 at Caesars Superdome on Sunday, despite that their starting QB Jameis Winston had to leave the game in the second quarter due to "significant" knee injury.

Winston was pulled down from behind by Devin White during a scramble and couldn't stand after that. "I think it's significant. He felt something and is on crutches right now. ... When he got up and then had to go back down, you were a little concerned," said the Saints' head coach Sean Payton who cried when he saw Winston in the locker room.

Substitute QB Trevor Siemian was 16-29 to pass for 159 yards and one TD. His efforts plus the rushing performance of Alvin Kamara and a 23-yard field goal by Brian Johnson helped the Saints lead 29-27 when there were 1:44 left.

That seemed enough for Tom Brady to run comeback offense for the Bucs after passing for over 300 yards and four TDs.

Brady's first pass in the following possession failed to reach anyone. Then he threw the second, which was intercepted by P.J. Williams who then returned 40 yards for a TD. That play killed the game.

"I just threw it to the wrong guy. I had Mike (Evans) open. It cost us the game," said Brady.
