General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has denied reports that the military launched a coup, saying what happened is a correction of course and a correction of the power transition, in an exclusive interview with Sputnik news agency.
According to a Sputnik report on Monday, Al-Burhan said he hopes the announcement of members of the Sovereignty Council and a new prime minister "will be done in a couple of days or a week at the most," and that it is up to Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok whether he wants to remain involved in the new government.
However, the military chief also told Sputnik that if Hamdok chose to stay with the new transitional government, it would be welcomed.
