Ethiopia on Tuesday declared a state of emergency for six months after forces from the northern Tigray region said they were gaining territory and considering marching on the capital Addis Ababa. Earlier on Tuesday, the city authorities asked residents to register their arms and prepare to defend their neighborhoods.
