Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service said on Wednesday that its director Sergei Naryshkin met U.S. Central Intelligence Agency Director William Burns in Moscow on Tuesday.

On the initiative of the American side, the officials discussed interdepartmental interaction with an emphasis on fighting terrorism globally, the Russian intelligence service said in a brief statement.

Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev on Tuesday also held talks with Burns in Moscow to "discuss Russian-American relations."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a daily briefing on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin was informed of the outcome of both meetings.

"Dialogue at this level and on such sensitive issues is extremely important for bilateral relations and for the exchange of views on the problems we have," Peskov said.
