On a visit to Peru in 2016, Xi Jinping visited an exhibition of Chinese cultural artifacts in the capital, Lima. More than simply viewing the display, he made a point of introducing the background of some of the items to a specially chosen group of people. Among them was museum director Ivan Solis, who concluded that the depth of the Chinese president's knowledge, his charisma and his humanity made him someone who must have been chosen by history.
