Nantong, a southeastern Chinese city of more than 7 million that you may never have heard of, is often called north Shanghai. It lies 100 kilometers north of megacity Shanghai, but in neighboring Jiangsu Province. 

The city is important in its own right, with a strategic location on the Yangtze River, and is home to China's largest offshore wind farm and a massive shipyard.
