The Chinese mainland recorded 54 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, with 39 linked to local transmissions and 15 from overseas, data from the National Health Commission showed on Wednesday.

In addition, 39 new asymptomatic cases were recorded, while 529 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

Confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now total 97,939 with the death toll of 4,636 unchanged since January. 

The latest tally of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 12,369 (12,036 recoveries, 213 deaths)

Macao: 77 (75 recoveries)

Taiwan: 16,451 (13,742 recoveries, 848 deaths)
