Spokesman of the Afghan Taliban's interim government, Zabihullah Mujahid, told a press briefing on Wednesday that around 600 extremist group members who escaped prisons during the fall of the former Afghan government have been recaptured.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan's Taliban-appointed foreign affairs chief begins a visit to Pakistan on Wednesday to discuss trade and other ties as the Taliban seek global recognition and the unfreezing of assets to prevent an economic crisis.

Speaking of the visit, Mujahid said he welcomed the regional countries' contribution to Afghanistan.

"We are optimistic about these meetings and there's no concern from our side," Mujahid told reporters.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday that China's Special Envoy for Afghan Affairs Yue Xiaoyong will lead a delegation to attend the Pakistan-hosted meeting on the Afghanistan situation on Thursday, along with representatives from the U.S. and Russia.
