Sudan's army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has appointed a new governing Sovereign Council that excludes the Forces of Freedom and Change alliance (FFC). Protests have erupted in the capital Khartoum since the announcement. Protesters blocked streets with barricades and rocks, and some set tires alight. The army has tightened its defenses at the city's main intersections to prevent violent incidents.
