China firmly opposed the wrong words of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken about the Taiwan region, which are against the consensus reached between China and the U.S. when the two countries established diplomatic ties, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Monday.

The United States should abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, the important consensus and political foundation of the two countries, said Zhao.

He said the so-called Taiwan Relations Act unilaterally enacted by the United States and the so-called "Six Assurances" to Taiwan violate the commitments made by the United States in the three China-U.S. joint communiques and puts the domestic laws of the United States above the country's international obligations, which are illegal and invalid.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities and the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces have been promoting "one China, one Taiwan" and "two Chinas," and colluding with external forces to engage in provocative activities for "independence," Zhao said.

"This is the greatest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits and the root cause of the current tension in the region," Zhao pointed out.

"China's reunification is an unstoppable historical trend. Adherence to the one-China principle is also the universal consensus of the international community. All acts of backing and cheering for 'Taiwan independence' are interference in China's internal affairs and are not conducive to maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits," he stressed.

Zhao urged the U.S. to adhere to the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiques, and handle the Taiwan question carefully and properly to not damage bilateral ties and peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits.
