More than 8,000 Chinese alligators are moved from outdoor pools to warmer indoor reptile houses at the Anhui National Nature Reserve for Chinese Alligator in Xuancheng City, east China's Anhui Province. China listed the Chinese alligator as a first-class protected animal in 1972. Wild Chinese alligators often hibernate in a cave in winter, while alligators bred in captivity spend the period indoors.
