Removing the U.S. sanctions in the upcoming Vienna talks is "of importance" to Iran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Monday.

"What is important for us is how to reach a good agreement in Vienna. From which point the talks will start in Vienna is less important," Khatibzadeh told a weekly press conference in response to a question about some European officials' remarks that the talks would resume from the point they stopped.

Iran and the remaining parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the 2015 nuclear deal, recently agreed to meet in the Austrian capital of Vienna on November 29 to resume the negotiations which were paused in June due to Iran's presidential election and the subsequent alteration in the administration.

During the recent visit of Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani to a number of European states, including Britain, France and Germany, it was agreed that the sanctions, imposed on Iran unilaterally by former U.S. President Donald Trump after his withdrawal from the JCPOA, should be "removed at once," said Khatibzadeh.

Iran is aware of the U.S. intention to rejoin the JCPOA, "but for us it is important to ensure that the sanctions are lifted, and to verify it," he noted.
