U.S. President Joe Biden said he hoped to have a candid conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the virtual meeting between the two leaders on Tuesday (Beijing Time). 

Biden said at the beginning of the meeting that it was important they communicated openly and honestly.

The U.S. president also said he hoped his next meeting with Xi would be face to face.
