Dreamy rime scene in SW China

The continuous low temperature and high humidity in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality have created a spectacular rime scene in a forest park, amazing visitors and residents alike. Rime is a special type of frost – granular tufts of ice – that appears only when atmospheric conditions are right and water vapor meets cold air.

Due to the low temperature in recent days, the natural scene of rime has appeared in Hongchiba Scenic Area in Wuxi County, Chongqing Municipality, as a result of interaction between the cold air and warm vapors from the Xiliu River. According to local meteorological authorities, the rime ice in the scenic area usually lasts about 100 days every year, from November to next April.
