Australia reported more than 1,000 new locally-acquired COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, raising the nation's total number of confirmed cases to more than 200,000 since the onset of the pandemic.

In addition, 21 COVID-related deaths were reported on Tuesday, the highest daily figure since late October, amid the battle against the third wave of infections.
