The European Union is discussing this week how to update its digital COVID-19 certificates and its approach to travel within and outside the bloc amid "a worryingly rapid rising number of COVID-19 cases across the EU."

Acknowledging vaccination works and it remains the most effective tool, Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides told the European Parliament on Monday, "we need to avoid fragmentation," and called for "strong coordination."
