Russian President Vladimir Putin and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi held a phone call on Monday to discuss bilateral energy cooperation and the migrant crisis at the Poland-Belarus border.

Putin drew attention to Poland's "systematic violations" of refugee rights, particularly the brutal treatment of migrants at the hands of Polish border guards. Both leaders agreed that dialogue between the European Union and Minsk would lead to a settlement of the standoff, the Kremlin said in a statement.
