South Korea reported a new one-day record of 4,116 COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.
Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum said the country's virus situation is worse than expected, especially in the capital, and urged health authorities to beef up containment measures.
