On November 24, 2021, a bumper night of snowfall covered many roads with thick snow in Altay City, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. One ski enthusiast got out his snowboard and boarded off down the street to buy breakfast, drawing much attention in the process.
Ten thousand years ago, the people of Altay often used skis and snowboards for hunting and transportation. Because of this, Altay Prefecture is known as one of the birthplaces of skiing.
