Scientists in South Africa detect new COVID-19 variant

A new COVID-19 variant, known as B.1.1.529, has been detected in South Africa, scientists have said.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said the new variant was found in small numbers and scientists are working to understand its potential implications.
