An ice calving spectacle resembles a thousand mirrors engraved into the Ulungur Lake's surface in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The spectacle appeared on the Ulungur Lake on November 25, sparkling and glistening under the sunshine.

The Ulungur lake, one of China's 10 largest freshwater lakes, covers an area of 1,035 square kilometers. It is one of the important fishery bases in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. As the temperature plummets in November every year, the lake begins to freeze. Giant ice walls pile up, but ice calving is rare.
