New York state declares 'disaster emergency' to boost hospital capacity
00:24

The U.S. state of New York has declared a COVID-19 emergency to boost hospital capacity. The governor issued the order on Friday as the holiday season began. New York is seeing the highest infection levels in more than a year and a half, with nearly 300 people hospitalized per day. The order allows the health department to limit non-essential medical procedures when capacity runs low and will last until mid-January.
